I selected the Sony DSC-V1 camera for this project, as I figured it would be easy to modify because its can switch between normal and nightshot photography in its stock configuration. You do these modifications at your own risk. The DSC-V3 is very similar, so these instructions probably apply to it as well. I assume you have some electronics tools and background if you are attempting this. 1. Let the camera sit overnight with the battery removed to allow the charge to drain off the flash capacitor. A chronicle of improvised infrared filters, useful for anyone who wants to experiment with IR without investing in filters. Also useful to test how well your camera can detect IR and for IR transparent props. Lighting Gel (excellent) Described here. In my expeirments, a stack of two Congo Blue to one Primary Red gels works almost as well as a low end (Neewer) 720nm IR filter. For use in goggles, I found that three Congo Blue to one Primary Red works best.
